A. Replace
Look around your office. Are there things you can replace or upgrade? If you are still using a plastic jar to hold your pens, consider upgrading to a nice matching desk set. This won’t cost a lot, but it will make your office look much nicer. In addition, try adding an area rug to the space in front of your desk, some new curtains or window coverings, and even consider splurging on a nicer office chair. These things all will add a touch of class to your work space.
B. Relax
Bring in some natural elements to create a relaxing space. Set some potted plants around the room. Not only will these add a splash of green, but they will help bring the outside into the room, making you feel less isolated. A water feature also is a great way to add some nature to your office, whether it’s a tabletop fountain or an elaborate saltwater aquarium. In addition, the sound of water serves to reduce stress. If you have a view, try to keep your windows uncovered, or block the sun with a sheer shade through which you can still see.
C. Beautify
Finally, add some nice artwork to your walls, and this does not mean a wall calendar. Invest in some nice black-and-white photos in good frames, or even take your own photographs and have them framed at a local craft store. If you have an artist friend, ask if you can display her art on a rotating basis. This will change up the look in your office and also give your friend some publicity. Avoid hanging bulletin boards or your child’s artwork in public places. While the former may be useful and the latter sweet, they do not create a professional look. Instead, place these things on the inside of a closet or armoire doors.
